“Pure” Frivolous Nonsense. Small Company Takes on Big Bully!!
August 10, 2015 MASS 0
You have to love the gall of one particular so called “Pure” company that sells alcohol-based hand sanitizing products. They went after a smaller outfit called Innovative Biodefense after the 800 lb. gorilla in the room said the small guy was using deceptive trade practices. Really? Listen, I have no stake in either side except I must call your attention to the fact that the small firm is counter-suing the big boys for deceptive trade and false accusations. Rather than get bogged down in all the legal mumbo-jumbo, suffice it to say, the big bully is NOT FDA approved for their alcohol-based product because that so-called monograph just calls for one active ingredient in hand antiseptics.
So basically, the big pure company can no longer make the claim that it IS FDA safe and effective. This is making my blood boil, because all of these legal machinations just make the general public even more confused about what is a better alternative for them and their families! There are safe alternatives—hand sanitizers without alcohol in the ingredients. As I have said over and over; using alcohol in hand sanitizing has a detrimental effect on its usefulness. That’s because your skin can get dried out from the alcohol. And that can lead to possibly causing bacteria to get caught in the remaining crevices of your skin. I will try to keep you updated on the bullying tactics of the big boys. I just saw an ad in the newspaper Sunday supplements recently for coupons for the—ahem—pure product. The slogan says, “Wipe out germs, not the fun at school. Well, it’s not fun to let your kids have access to anything alcohol- based. You wouldn’t give your kids alcohol-based cough syrup, would you?
And some kids abuse the alcohol IN those products as you can see on other parts of the M.A.S.S website. Amazing. Nobody is disputing that alcohol can kill germs. We’ve known that for hundreds of years. But if there ARE safer alternatives, why would you chance it? I happen to have used one of the NON-alcohol hand sanitizers for several years now called safe-Hands. I rarely even get a cold anymore…and my hands simply don’t get the cracks I used to get—especially during the upcoming cold months for much of the country. It should be interesting to see how this lawsuit plays out. I just can’t wrap my head around why people choose to use a product with so many down sides.
If you have a story you’d like to share about the use of ANY kind of hand sanitizer, I’d love to hear about it. I will get back to you in a timely manner and I’d love to share your story in my blog here on the Mothers Advocating Safe Sanitizers site. You can write to me at BigJaySorensenMASS@gmail.com. I thank you and BE BIG! Big Jay Sorensen
