The mission of Moms Advocating Safe Sanitizers (M.A.S.S) is to protect our children by bringing awareness to Moms and Dads about the potential dangers of products placed on our children’s bodies. On April 30, 2015 the FDA issued a document, expressing serious concerns about the long-term effect of the use alcohol-based hand sanitizers, specifically for pregnant and nursing woman has made this important topic our first health and safety issue! At M.A.S.S., we are your eyes and ears and we welcome you to join our mission.
About the Founder’s
Dr. Andrea Gancarz, B.S., M.S., RDH, M.Ed, Ed.D. Dr. Andrea has a Masters of Education Degree (MEd), a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) Certified Dental Assistant and a Professor, researcher and an educator in the area of in infection control policy and procedure. She co-founded M.A.S.S. to be the voice of Mom’s throughout the country who are concerned about the health and safety of products placed on children’s bodies with alcohol hand sanitizers as the first mission. Dr. Andrea has appeared on network news and is the proud mom of a six year-old boy.
Jay Sorensen- Jay is a philanthropist and successful radio and television 45-year broadcaster known for his volunteer work. He served on the Board of Directors for his local March of Dimes chapter, and has spearheaded several fundraisers over the years for organizations like the Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Juvenile Diabetes Association, and the Salvation Army. He has been a health and safety advocate and MUSIC RADIO Disc Jockey on the world-famous WCBS-FM Radio 101.1, New York City, Sirius Satellite Radio, the legendary 66 WNBC-AM Radio in NYC, and a TALK RADIO host at radio stations like: KLIF-AM in Dallas, WPHT-AM and WWDB-FM in Philadelphia and was the founding Program Director and host of NEW JERSEY 101.5 FM. He’s been involved in various TV projects with Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Radio Personality, Joey Reynolds. When Jay nearly died 10 times from MRSA (a hospital acquired Staph infection) he researched how poor hospital hand sanitizing practices may have contributed to his near demise. This prompted acclaimed scientific writer, Maryn McKenna, to dedicate the third chapter of her book Superbug: The Fatal Menace of MRSA exclusively about his case. Jay and his wife Andrea have two grown children and four grandchildren.
With thousands of poisonings a year from hand sanitizer containing ethanol, we need to take the risk out of the classroom. There’s no reason young children need to be around these toxic substances.
